Component Shortage: Why New Car Prices New (and What It Means for You)
RAM, hard drives, storage… prices have been skyrocketing for several weeks now. And no, this isn’t just a temporary blip.
The prices of some components have tripled. As a result, New computer equipment New more expensive… and sometimes harder to find.
So, is this just a blip or a real shift in the market? Spoiler: it’s likely to stick around.
That’s why RAM is so expensive these days...
Why are prices rising so much?
Artificial intelligence is a game-changer; today, it’s everywhere. To function, it requires significant memory and storage capacity. Its insatiable appetite for these resources is already leading to excessive consumption, and as AI-driven projects expand, this demand continues to grow at an accelerating rate.
Tech giants are hogging a massive share of global production to fuel their projects. The result: fewer components available for the rest of the market.
And, of course, when demand skyrockets… prices follow suit. HP, Dell, Lenovo, and others are pointing to a situation that will have a direct impact on the prices and delivery times of IT equipment in the coming months—or even years.
A market heavily dependent on a few key players
Another key point: global memory production is in the hands of a very small number of companies. This concentration makes the market more vulnerable and less able to absorb unforeseen events or adapt quickly to new demands.
Less flexibility, less ability to absorb spikes in demand… In this context, the slightest disruption—whether a sudden surge in demand, an industrial setback, or geopolitical tension—has an immediate impact: prices skyrocket, lead times lengthen, and the entire supply chain comes under strain.
In practical terms, what does this mean for you?
- New computers are more expensive
- Longer delivery times
- Fewer options for certain configurations
And above all: a trend that is set to continue
Clearly, waiting isn't going to bring prices down.
refurbished products refurbished the right choice (not just a fallback option)
Given this situation, refurbished products refurbished longer just a secondary option. They are a legitimate purchasing strategy.
Why? Because it relies on equipment that is already in production. Therefore, it is much less affected by the current component shortage.
At Refabz, every device is tested, optimized, and ready to use. The result: reliable equipment that’s available quickly at an affordable price.
Today, the smart move is simple: don't wait for prices to go up any further.
And by the way, you’re also making a more responsible choice by extending the life of your equipment.
