The first decision you need to make is which team to choose, as our advice will vary slightly according to your preference. So, do you prefer the Windows or Mac environment?

Windows is a versatile and widespread operating system, ideal for everyday use and compatible with most software. It's particularly recommended for gaming, but also for general school use. It's the perfect choice if you're already in the Apple ecosystem, or if you're destined for creative studies (music, graphics, video...). What size for optimum comfort?

  • 11 to 12.5'': very compact and easy to carry, but the screen size has become relatively small for modern uses.

For general use, the 13-14" format is an excellent choice. For art, architecture or design, a larger screen can be beneficial for creative tasks.

A crucial element to consider is the technical configuration of your future computer. Here's what you need to know to make the right choice:

  • Processor: This is the brain of your computer. Choose an Intel Core i3 for basic uses, a Core i5 for optimum versatility, or a Core i7 for more advanced tasks like video editing or programming.

  • RAM: Opt for at least 8 GB of RAM for a smooth experience in most academic tasks. If you're working on complex projects, such as simulations or graphics rendering, consider 16 GB.

  • Storage: An SSD is essential for fast performance. Choose a capacity of 256 GB to 1 TB depending on your storage needs, especially if you handle a lot of heavy files such as videos or complex software.

Autonomy and connectivity: the essentials for a busy day​

Make sure your computer has good battery life, especially if you spend a lot of time between classes without access to an electrical outlet. MacBooks with M1 or M2 processors are excellent choices for their impressive battery life.

Check connectivity too: if you need to connect peripherals (USB stick, mouse and keyboard or a printer), make sure your computer has the necessary ports, or get an adapter.
