We're still going to love Windows 10

Big news today (but not yesterday): Microsoft has announced that Windows 10, that famous operating system, will no longer receive security updates after October 2025. So, should we panic or keep a cool head? Spoiler: we're keeping a cool head, and we'll tell you why!

HEP HEP HEP, UPDATE ON UPDATES

Big breaking news, folks: Microsoft has come up with a little twist that even Netflix wouldn't have dared. Yes, we thought Windows 10 was going to bow out of security in October 2025, BUT actually... NOT SO FAST!

Microsoft is offering you...one year of FREE additional security updates after October 2025. Yes, free, but WARNING, it's not for everyone...
To take advantage of this, you need to connect your PC's settings to the cloud using a Microsoft Account thanks to the Windows Backup app. Basically, you have to share a little more of your life with Microsoft (I promise, they haven't asked for your vacation photos... yet).

You don't want to give your settings to Bill Gates? Well, you'll have to put your hand in your pocket: about $30 a year, or even dig into your Microsoft Rewards points (if you can figure out the exchange rate, you're a genius).

Steps to enjoy the gift (and avoid the bill)

- Link your PC to a Microsoft account

- Activate backup via the Windows Backup app

- Synchronize your settings on the cloud (OneDrive 5 GB free, it's a gift)

And bim! You get updates until October 2026 WITHOUT paying.

If not... well, you can pay.

To remember:

The extension is for security only. No new functions, no fixed bugs, no magic unicorns. And after October 2026, it's really bye-bye to updates, even for the most loyal.

Windows 10, is it serious if it stops?

Cut the scary playlist: no, your PC won't explode or turn into a connected toaster the first second it boots up. We'll show you what's really going to happen.

The real risks: untangling the real from the scary

Here are the real threats to all systems (Windows, Mac, Linux and even your connected microwave - we're not kidding):

Phishing (or the salmon scam)

They send you fake e-mails that look ultra-credible to steal your passwords or banking info.

How to react:
Don't click on strange, heavy or suspicious links.
Look carefully at the sender and prefer the "delete" button to the "jackpot" one.

Malware and ransomware (software that casts spells and blackmails)

They sometimes embed themselves without ringing. Ransomware = it stashes and locks your files and demands a ransom (the PC gangster).

How to get rid of them:
Install a reputable antivirus (not the neighbor's cousin who said it was cool).
Make backups of your data in a safe place (like, not the same drive).
Update your software (not just your wallpaper).

Unauthorized access (when someone squats on your WiFi)

Unsecured public networks are a godsend for hackers.

How to protect yourself :

Avoid public WiFi for your sensitive operations.
Use a VPN if you really want to be anonymous.

Humans (yes, yes... You, me, and anyone else who can forget a PC turned on at Grandma's)

Don't leave your machine unattended in the wild (neither on the train, nor at your weird neighbor's).

A strong password + two-factor identification = king/queen of the world.

OK, but why are we still selling Windows 10 in 2025?

Because not everyone has €1,200 to spend on a new computer to enjoy Netflix AND the latest version of Word.

Windows 10 is :

  • A proven, reliable system. A stable, super-compatible experience for working, playing or watching your movies and TV shows.
  • Economical and powerful. Refurbished Windows 10 PCs let you control your budget, without sacrificing quality or performance.
  • Broad compatibility. The vast majority of office software, games, apps and professional tools are still optimized for Windows 10 and will be for a long time to come.

Who's it great for?

  • Small budgets, students, families, professionals who aren't really geeks or gamers, connected retirees - everyone who wants reliable computing WITHOUT breaking the bank.
  • Companies or associations that want solid, not too costly positions that work without headaches.

Want to go Windows 11? Possible, but not mandatory

If your dream is novelty, cutting-edge technology and fresh features, and you've got the budget, go for it. But for basic use, Windows 10 remains a sensible and sustainable option. Software, performance, ergonomics: it's all there.
